Busy Easter

A busy few weeks at Cow & Ghost.
Very enjoyable Fair last weekend with Hel's Belles Boutique in Gloucester.

Blackfriars Priory is a magnificent building, and a wonderful setting for a vintage event. If you're ever in the city, it is worth going to have a look.

Since the Fair we've been busy sorting and adding to our stock,
as several events are coming up. As well as sourcing items, have put the recent sewing classes to use and made some cushions.

This beautiful Welsh tapestry blanket was in wonderful condition, aside from 4 prominent coaster sized holes, Finally felt brave enough to cut it up and it has a new lease of life.

So far 6 lovely 20 inch cushions, and quite a lot left over for future projects. These are a generous size, and have used the same blanket as backing, making use of the original fringing as much as possible.

We'll be bringing these, along with lots of new stock to our next event, which is the fair at the Clarence Hall in Crickhowell. Always an enjoyable day.
Look forward to seeing you there.

A little update...

A quiet few weeks on the blog. We haven't had an event to promote, but have been busy gathering stock for the upcoming ones. We've also enjoyed a little jaunt to London. Trip to the theatre, lots to eat and drink.... Perfect

We highly recommend 'The Play That Goes Wrong'. Laugh out loud funny from beginning to end. A satire of an old fashioned murder mystery, staged by a VERY amateur drama group. Non stop action and entertainment.

Looking forward to our next event in Gloucester. These are great fairs. Call in if you're passing

Future events

For a change, a very quiet week at Cow & Ghost. Most unusual. Thought it would be a good time to promote the events we have booked to trade at over the coming months. These are all enjoyable and well attended fayres. Hope to see you there :-)

Second Childhood......

Cow & Ghost have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to Devon. Lots to see, lots to do and lots to eat.

We particularly recommend Exeter and its beautiful cathedral and a visit to Sidmouth is a 'must'. It's like towns used to be. A huge selection of independent shops

We also visited the National Trust's 'Coleton Fishacre'. Formerly home to the D'Oyly Carte family, it is an 1920's arts and crafts gem. As you can see in the photos, it is also very 'hands on'.

The trip gave us plenty of opportunities for stock hunting. We've been able to gather quite a treasure trove for upcoming fairs and events. Among jewellery and china, we've gathered quite a collection of toys and games. All from different sources.

Our particular favourite however is this vintage 'Cluedo' set. Hardly - if ever - played. Totally complete and in spotless condition.

An extra piece of nostalgia is the original shop stock label on the side of the box. 'Harrods'. Nothing but the best for Cow & Ghost.

Button up....

A week off at Cow & Ghost Towers. A few days away booked in Devon with the hope of finding some goodies for the stall. A few days before to catch up. Doing some cleaning and tidying. When the weather improves every spare second will be spent in the garden, so dusting while the going is good.....

Struck by the number of buttons we have around the house. I buy them when I see them, but hadn't noticed how they'd mounted up. Often dip in for craft and sewing projects, and usually end up spending a few minutes just looking at the general selection.

Colour co-ordinated  to match our blue and white bedroom, and an old chocolate box on top of the wardrobe. When I was young, most houses had a tin or a box where buttons and buckles were stored and added to.

Sill vases are a favourite, and this one has slowly filled up......

Lastly this tin lived in my grandmother's under stairs cupboard. It belonged to her mother. As a child I can remember spending rainy afternoons playing with them and sorting by colour and size. Happy memories.

Hope this inspires our followers to dig out a stash or start one up. Happy collecting.

A Fine Romance

Wonderful day at the Derwen Fairs vintage event in Carmarthen town. Great to see so many friends. Always a great atmosphere. Thanks to all who braved the wind and rain to visit. Two more fairs at the same venue later in the year. Looking forward.

There was a wonderful and diverse selection of items for sale. We love vintage book cover art at Cow & Ghost. Our particular favourites are children's books, but were delighted to come across these vintage romantic titles.

We'll be bringing them along to future events. The dust jackets would be wonderful in frames. We've recently added framed vintage art to Cow & Ghost stock. We also had great fun over Christmas completing a jigsaw in this style. There's no stopping us :-)

A night out

It's been a very quiet January at Cow & Ghost. It's been a good chance to sort stock and we've had time to do a few buying trips. Lots of nice things for fayres later in the year.

Our good friend had a milestone birthday earlier this month, and this has been the weekend of the party. Delighted that it was a 'vintage' theme. Brilliant night, and some wonderful costumes. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Looking forward to our next fayre on Saturday, February 6th in St Peter's Hall, Carmarthen. Always an enjoyable event. Please come along and say hello.
